Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is a component of cartilage in our body. As a dietary supplement, it is taken in the form of glucosamine sulfate, often in combination with chondroitin. It is usually made from chitin, a substance in the shells of shellfish such as shrimp and lobster, but can also be obtained from some plants, such as corn and wheat.
